Should Teachers Carry Guns in Schools?

The national debate about whether teachers should be allowed to carry guns in classrooms is being discussed among officials and educators across the U.S. because of the school shooting crisis happening in our country. Some believe allowing teachers to be armed on school campuses could be used as a defense mechanism in case there is a school shooting, and others believe allowing guns in classrooms poses a threat to the children's safety and education. Of course there will always be two sides of the argument but we can all agree we all want a better and brighter forthcoming for our future generations.
Not surprisingly, government officials such as President Trump along with other advocates of gun-rights are the people passing laws that allows teachers to be armed during school hours. Contrarily most teachers, principles, school employees, and organizations created to help maintain a safe environment for schools do not agree arming teachers is the right move. Currently, educators are allowed to carry firearms on school campuses in 15 states including Arkansas. Arming teachers presents a dangerous setting for students to learn in and especially in secondary to college level classes. Knowing a teacher has a gun can be a serious concern of the students leading them to question the safety of their surroundings
We need to think about what kind of environment is created or could be created when we allow guns in the classrooms. There are good and bad teachers as there would be good and bad people in any profession but taking that risk of pairing a bad teacher with a firearm could potentially lead to severe consequences (no matter how well or long the teacher has been trained). Taking into consideration the various hazardous situations a firearm in the class can produce, advancing with a firm solution is mandatory.
Going forward, it is crucial we consider alternatives to arming our country’s educators. Not only should we look at ways to protect classes from shootings, finding a resolution to end school shootings might be a more effective approach. Enforcing stricter gun laws and placing security and police officers on school campuses are just a few examples for ensuring the safety of our children. Not everyone is in a position to take direct action to solve these problems but educating ourselves and raising awareness about this national debate are small, yet effective actions that will go a long way.

1)  Why should we allow or not allow teachers to carry guns in classrooms?
2) How effective would allowing a teacher to carry guns be? Explain.
3) Why do you think some people are opposed to teachers carrying guns in schools?
